For Loretta Kryshak, community service has never been about recognition. It has been about seeing a need, bringing people together, and finding a way to help.
That made being recognized as a nominee for Nonprofit Emerging Leader of the Year at the 2026 Ozaukee Impact Awards especially meaningful.
Kryshak, Executive Director of Rebel Reform, joined nonprofit professionals, volunteers, businesses, and community leaders at the July 23 celebration at the Ozaukee Nonprofit Center in Grafton, Wisconsin.
The recognition provided an opportunity to reflect not simply on one nomination, but on the partnerships and community relationships that have shaped Kryshak’s work throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
What the Ozaukee Impact Awards Recognition Represents
The Ozaukee Impact Awards celebrate people and organizations contributing their time, leadership, resources, and ideas to strengthening the community.
The Nonprofit Emerging Leader of the Year category recognizes an early- or mid-career nonprofit professional who demonstrates vision, passion, and commitment to the community.
Kryshak was nominated for her work as Executive Director of Rebel Reform, the community outreach arm of Rebel Converting.
For Kryshak, that distinction is important because Rebel Reform’s work has always depended on collaboration.
“Being recognized alongside people who dedicate so much of themselves to their communities was incredibly meaningful,” Kryshak said. “You quickly realize that community impact is never the work of one person. It happens because people decide to show up, work together, and do something that matters.”
Loretta Kryshak’s Nonprofit Leadership Through Rebel Reform
Loretta Kryshak’s nonprofit leadership is rooted in a practical approach to community service: identify where help is needed, build relationships with organizations already doing important work, and bring together the resources and people capable of making a difference.
As Executive Director of Rebel Reform, Kryshak has worked with nonprofit organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community partners on initiatives addressing needs throughout Milwaukee, Ozaukee County, and southeastern Wisconsin.
Rather than operating independently of established community organizations, Rebel Reform often works through partnerships. That collaborative approach allows resources, volunteers, financial support, and awareness to reach organizations already connected to the people and communities they serve.
The result is a model of community involvement built around relationships rather than recognition.
Connecting Business Resources With Community Needs
Rebel Reform grew from the belief that businesses can play an active role in the communities around them.
As the community outreach arm of Rebel Converting, Rebel Reform has been able to bring together business resources, employees, volunteers, nonprofit partners, and community supporters around charitable initiatives.
For Kryshak, one of the most important parts of that work is listening first.
Communities and nonprofit organizations generally know what they need. Effective support begins with understanding those needs and then determining where an organization, business, or individual can genuinely help.
That philosophy has influenced Kryshak’s approach to leadership and has helped Rebel Reform develop relationships across southeastern Wisconsin.
Why Community Collaboration Matters
No single nonprofit can address every community need.
Kryshak believes some of the most effective community initiatives happen when organizations stop thinking about who receives credit and instead concentrate on what can be accomplished together.
Businesses may have resources. Nonprofits have expertise and community relationships. Volunteers bring their time and talents. Donors provide financial support. Community leaders can bring people together.
When those pieces connect, relatively simple ideas can grow into initiatives capable of reaching hundreds or even thousands of people.
That collaborative philosophy is central to Rebel Reform and to Kryshak’s approach to nonprofit leadership.
A Recognition Shared With the Community
At the 2026 Ozaukee Impact Awards, Kryshak received an official nomination certificate recognizing her as a Nonprofit Emerging Leader of the Year nominee.
But she views the honor as something shared with the people and organizations behind the work.
“An award nomination may have one person’s name on it, but the work behind it belongs to many people,” Kryshak said. “I am fortunate to work with people who care deeply about their communities and are willing to turn that compassion into action.”
The recognition also reinforced something Kryshak has learned through years of humanitarian and community work: meaningful change is often cumulative.
A donated item matters to the person receiving it. A volunteer’s afternoon matters to the organization that needs help. A business partnership can give a nonprofit resources it could not otherwise access. One successful community project can create relationships that lead to the next.
Those individual acts build upon one another.
Moving Forward
The Ozaukee Impact Awards nomination is an important milestone, but Kryshak sees it primarily as encouragement to continue the work.
Through Rebel Reform, she plans to keep strengthening relationships with nonprofit organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community leaders while identifying new opportunities to support people throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
Her work as a photographer and humanitarian also continues to shape the way she approaches community service. Both require paying attention to people, listening to their stories, and looking beyond what is immediately visible.
For Kryshak, leadership begins in much the same way.
It starts by paying attention.
Then it requires showing up.
And, most importantly, it means finding other people willing to show up with you.
